Nachos Fiesta

130 Dundee Street
Edinburgh
EH11

This is our first post - not the first time we have eaten together as a family but that's a given. We headed off with our Itison voucher but it had taken a couple of days to get our booking (we had wanted a Sunday lunch). In the end, we set for a Monday evening meal, after a slightly premature complaint on the Itison website.

Booking - 3/5
Fair enough, I tried to book quite last minute for a Sunday meal (did have a voucher so slightly understandable) but I didn't find the lady on the phone terribly friendly. Could hear DD have a wee chuckle with whoever she spoke to to book with on the Monday however.

Welcome - 2/5
Walked in, heard crickets, turned around to a nice view of Mr Chav scratching his arse on his way to the cinema. Lead to a very nice booth with a very poor view of the Fountain Park escalators. Menu's given (an eclectic collection of meals from around the globe, I start to wonder what the Galashiels menu entails....)

Starter 3/5
(Garlic bread and Fiesta Nachos)
Garlic bread sparked a family feud. On the Allies front, myself and DS fought valiantly for the moist and garlically crunchiness (and there was plenty of it). To the South, the enemy sneered however munched enough that Fiesta shouldn't take it too much to heart. The restaurant namesake (Nachos Fiesta) was pretty much your run of the mill doritos, salsa and sour cream with a sprinkling of cheese and jalapeños - but with no guacamole!!! DD practically faints with horror and then loses a layer of skin trying to pick food off the napalm plate.

Mains - 3.5/5
(M- New York Strip, 10oz done rare , DH- chicken fajitas, DD steak fajitas, DS -  Spaghetti Bolognaise suprise suprise, side of onion rings)
Despite ordering a rare steak, there was less blood then a pre watershed showing of twilight i.e.  none at all. However it  was tasty and it was not enough to complain (no eruptions on this occasion). Salad left me grateful for my onions rings  I had ordered as an extra side and for the peppers I half inched off DH's plate.  Chips slightly anaemic and could have done with the blood from the steak to give 'em a bit of life.
DH grudgingly appreciated being fed, however there was not enough meat for a full grown hominoid male and then he began to launch an underhand trade of steak for peppers (I feel I got the worse deal), but hey ho - that's been it for 20 odd years.
DD was disappointed guacamole still didn't make an appearance (FGS!  Asda £1.39) but enjoyed it.
DS NOM NOM BOLOGNAISE. (oh to be 10 again)

Dessert - N/A
Went to Sainsbury's for own brand Magnums and to catch the start of the reduced price food (we're all guilty of that one).

Drinks 4/5
DS got a very cheap (25p!) blackcurrant cordial. This was excellent as I am fed up of paying through the nose for sugar syrup and water. All other drinks were standard. Cocktail menu looked good and will be experimenting when DD turns of age in August. Although she attempts again and again........

Facilities - 2/5
Place was as quiet as Margaret Thatcher's 80's birthday party. Other clientèle were walking on the weird side. DS complained of a freaky fellow child staring him down in the toilet. We were  also subjected to double date from hell's jokes in the next boothe -  (What do you call a man on a ledge? Cliff.  - Hardehar) FFS even DS (10) was cringing for them - they turned the music down promptly when we asked - big plus,.

                                  FAMILY + -  2.9 / 5

A fairly eclectic restaurant really, the majority of the food is good at a reasonable price. The seating arrangements are great (nice to get a booth). Service could have been a bit cheerier as this is the kind of family place that warrants that kind of attitude.

Hiya!, I'm Shelley. Prolific facebooker, loving wife (....), and mother of two. I spend my life working, chasing after spawn, eBaying and relaxing by eating out (and drinking gin).   But finding establishments that caters to a father with a nut allergy, a mum with a (slightly extreme) taste for raw meat, a late teen daughter and a ten year old boy who eats nothing but bolognese ,  mac and cheese and chicken strips whilst still providing excellent service at a recession combating price is a constant uphill struggle.  So please, join us in our  search for family friendly eating out experiences - feel free to recommend / hate on any eatery you have encountered and we will do our best to check 'em out and slash 'em down or rate 'em up!
